My schedule was occupied this weekend by attending Regional Medical Updates on Metabolic Syndrome which was organized by Department of Internal Medicine, IIUM in collaboration with Department of Internal Medicine, HTAA and MMA. It helped me to understand the content of Clinical Practice Guideline in Management of Diabetes Mellitus 2009.
One of the main problems in managing patients with metabolic syndrome is the non compliance of patients to the treatment management. It is very frustrating for the doctors to deal with such patients as after all the advices given and drugs prescribed, the blood sugar level and the blood pressure are still not within control.
So doctors, be patient. Treat patients with our heart though it is easier to say it that to do it. Insya Allah the reward is waiting for you in the hereafter.

There are several kinds of what is called non compliance while taking prescribed medication.
There are those patients who did not take your prescribed drugs because they did not understand the instructions.
Learn to communicate in their language.
There are those patients who did not take your recommended drugs because they do not trust your opinion.
Learn to build trust and respect.
There are those patients who did not take your drugs because they make them feel bad.
Learn to hear these people, they are often correct.

I thank my lecturers in Department of Internal Medicine, IIUM for this great seminar.
